Community Leaders Honored with Awards at Friends of the Foundation Celebration

Methodist Hospital Foundation bestowed its highest honors for service to Methodist Hospital, Methodist Health System and the community on Tuesday, April 28, during its annual Friends of the Foundation Celebration at the Holiday Inn Central Convention Center. More than 550 guests honored Michael Simmonds, John P. O’Gara, M.D., Mary Lue Hicks, The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Memorial Foundation, The Don Martineau family and the family of Heather Roberts. The event also recognized scholarship recipients from Nebraska Methodist College – The Josie Harper Campus, as well as Methodist Health System nurses seeking graduate education.


Michael Simmonds is the 2009 J.D. Anderson Leadership Award honoree.

The award is given in memory of J.D. Anderson, the first chairman of the Methodist Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. The award honors individuals who have modeled dedication to the community and/or Methodist Health System.

John P. O’Gara, M.D. is this year’s recipient of the F.E. Borchers Community Service Award.

This award is given in memory of F.E. Borchers, Methodist Hospital Foundation’s first secretary and recognizes exemplary service to Methodist Health System while demonstrating good character and strong spirit in the community.

Mary Lue Hicks is the 2009 Heart and Dove Award honoree, an award for outstanding volunteer service.

The Heart and Dove Award honors an individual who has shown an extraordinary quality of caring through volunteer service. This award recognizes outstanding voluntary service and initiative in voluntary leadership as well as a special quality of love and caring.

The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Memorial Foundation, the Don Martineau family and the family of Heather Roberts are the 2009 recipients of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award.

The Spirit of Philanthropy Award is presented to foundations, corporations and/or organizations that embody the spirit of philanthropy by demonstrating vision and passionate commitment to the community and the mission of the Methodist Hospital Foundation.
