Community Leaders Honored with Annual Service Awards at Friends Celebration

Methodist Hospital Foundation bestowed its highest honors for service to Methodist Hospital, Methodist Health System and the community on Tuesday, April 29 during its annual Friends of the Foundation celebration at the Holiday Inn Central Convention Center, 3321 South 72nd Street. More than 550 guests honored Allan Lozier, James Eggers, Mary Grasmick and The Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program. The event also recognized scholarship recipients from Nebraska Methodist College – The Josie Harper Campus, as well as Methodist Health System nurses who seek graduate education.

Allan Lozier received the F.E. Borchers Community Service Award.

Allan Lozier is this year’s recipient of the F.E. Borchers Community Service Award. The award is given in memory of F.E. Borchers, the first secretary of the Methodist Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. The award recognizes individuals who have rendered exemplary service to Methodist Health System while demonstrating good character and strong spirit in the community.

Lozier is chairman and chief executive officer of Lozier Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers of store fixture systems in the country. The company has nearly 2,500 employees and is headquartered in north Omaha, where it has its largest facility.

In addition to Methodist, Lozier’s community interests include Girls Inc., Planned Parenthood, Bellevue University, Nebraska Humane Society and the College of St. Mary. He also established The Lozier Foundation in 1986, which has benefited thousands in Nebraska and in north Omaha. The focus of the Lozier Foundation is women and children’s issues with an emphasis on inner city problems.

James Eggers received the 2007 J.D. Anderson Leadership Award.

James Eggers is the 2008 J.D. Anderson Leadership Award honoree. The award is given in memory of J.D. Anderson, the first chairman of the Methodist Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. This award honors individuals who have modeled dedication to the community and Methodist Health System.

In 1967, Eggers founded one of the largest executive recruiting businesses in the Midwest, EGGers Consulting Company, Inc. Over 40 years later, Eggers continues to lead the day-to-day operations and employs a staff of 50, with recruiters specializing in several areas. He serves on many committees and boards, including Methodist Hospital Foundation and the national board of The Power of Positive Thinking. He is active in the local banking community and is listed in Who's Who in the World.

He considers his greatest accomplishment in life to be his 60-plus years of marriage to his “sweetheart,” Marge Eggers.

Mary Grasmick is the 2007 Heart and Dove Award honoree.

Mary Grasmick is the 2008 Heart and Dove Award honoree. This award honors an individual who has shown an extraordinary quality of caring through volunteer service. It recognizes outstanding voluntary service, initiative in volunteering leadership and a special quality of love and caring.

Grasmick has been a volunteer at Methodist Hospital for more than 41 years, giving nearly 6,000 hours of her time. As a valued member of the Methodist Hospital Volunteers in Partnership (VIP), Mary received their Gallery of Service Award in 1994 and 2004, and Honorary Lifetime membership in 2005.

She is a faithful volunteer at the Methodist Hospital Gift Shop, and can be counted on for her cheerful attitude and willingness to fill-in on a moment’s notice. Methodist Hospital Foundation is pleased to honor Mary for her exceptional loyalty, love, and service to Methodist Hospital.

Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program is the recipient of The Spirit of Philanthropy Award.

The Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program is the 2008 recipient of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award, which is presented to foundations, corporations or organizations that embody the spirit of philanthropy by demonstrating extraordinary vision and passionate commitment to the community and the mission of Methodist Hospital Foundation.

The Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program is a unique community partnership that brings free, professional counseling services to those who otherwise might not have access to mental health care. A team of licensed, Masters degree-level counselors from Methodist Hospital maintain office hours at three Omaha elementary schools, one middle school, five Omaha high schools, eight churches and one central office.

Demand for services has steadily increased since the program began as a single site experiment in 1996. In 2007, the Community Counseling Program averaged more than 485 client sessions and 572 consultations per month, helping more than 10,000 community members.

Methodist Hospital Foundation is honored to recognize these counselors and the work they do on behalf of our community.
